A man was granted his pre-trial freedom in the sum of $10,000 at the Whim Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful assault.
Ricknauth Sukhai of Belvedere, Corentyne reportedly assaulted his 75-year- old mother, Chandrawattie Sukhai on January 14.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant is an alcoholic and is in the habit of hitting his mother. The matter was reported to the police and he was arrested.
Sukhai denied the allegations and Magistrate Chandra Sohan ordered him to post $10,000 bail. The case has been transferred to the Albion Magistrate’s Court for January 30.
