Mr Rahaman has been hostile to these communities

Dear Editor,

We refer to the article concerning the Hubu goat farmer on the 13th January 2007 with a picture of a dog on a piece of land. We know nothing about a goat farm in the area of Hubu, what we do know was that there was a multi million dollar aquaculture farm which is now abandoned by the Rahamans. A few goats are reared in the community and you can see them on the road at any hour of the day.

Stray dogs once ate one of the few goats in October 2006. On the month 15th November a majority of the dogs were poisoned by fowl guts lying on the road ways from St-Lawrence to Unity. The police were contacted but no action was taken against the person suspected.

In these villages including St-Lawrence, Hubu and Unity there are vicious dogs for example, pitbulls and rottweilers, owned mostly by businessmen and they are kept on leashes.

Mr Rahaman, who is a stranger in our community never discussed these problems with our neighbourhood council, but one day visited a resident of St Lawrence and took a picture of a dog, the dog posted in the Stabroek News which is a common breed stray dog.

Citizens were willing to help but Mr Rahaman has a bad temper and is very difficult.

This matter is before Magistrate Fizal Azeez at the Leonora magistrate’s court, where he could not produce evidence of the dogs eating the goats. Mr Rahaman needs to publicly apologise because he took the law in his own hands.

Yours faithfully,

M. Persaud, A. Seepersaud, K. Looknauth, R.Looknauth and 15 others
