Man remanded over abduction of taxi driver

A man who allegedly abducted another man after hiring his taxi was yesterday refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Kirk Clark, 28, of 910 Rosemary Lane, South Cummingsburg was not required to plead to the abduction charge.

It is alleged that on January 10 at Main Street, Clarke abducted Rohan Kanhai with intent to cause him to be unlawfully confined.

According to reports, Clark hired Kanhai’s taxi from the East Coast to be taken to Main Street and he stuck him up and took him away in the car.

Kanhai drove into a gas station which forced Clark to run and he was chased by public-spirited citizens and caught.

Representing Clark was attorney-at-law Frank Fraser who told the court that his client did not know the virtual complainant and had never seen him before. The attorney then requested bail.

Police Prosecutor Maxine Graham responded that someone would not kidnap a person they knew and requested that bail be refused.

Clark was remanded and his case was transferred to Court Two for February 12.
