The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the burning to death of a woman last year commenced yesterday at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
Shilendra Peters, 27, of Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara is charged with the murder of his wife Farida Ishmael.
Detective Corporal Noris Harry who is stationed at the Leonora Police Station and attached to the criminal investigations department testified at the PI yesterday.
Also testifying was Bibi Sheeleza Ally, the mother of the deceased.
It is alleged that on August 26 last year, Peters murdered his wife by throwing a flammable liquid on her and setting her on fire.
She later died at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Peters is being represented by Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos.
