Name remains on jurors list though I’m over 60

Dear Editor,

Some years ago, during the revision of the jurors list before a magistrate in the Suddie Court room my name was deleted having attained the age of 60 which brings about an automatic disqualification.

Even after that, my name continues to be on the list and I was summoned to serve in that capacity although I was not eligible to do so.

A judge in chambers after verifying my age from my ID card also deleted my name from the list. But it is still not making a difference because, once again, I received a summons to serve as a juror at the Essequibo High Court on February 20, 2007.

Several other persons are faced with the same predicament which is a result of the list not being perused properly by those who are responsible for making the necessary adjustments. This needs to be done to avoid a lot of inconvenience.

Yours faithfully,

Baliram Persaud
