Couple accused of $750,000 scam on bail

Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan granted $25,000 bail to a couple accused of fraudulently converting more than $750,000 to their own use when they yesterday appeared before him to answer to the charges.

According to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court reports David and Sunita Singh pleaded not guilty to the joint charge and were released on bail after they indicated that they would repay the money. The couple, on October 26 last, at Georgetown, being solely entrusted by Feroze Haniff with $1,430,000 to buy 100 Motorola C139 phones, 20 Motorola Pebble phones and 15 L6es allegedly converted $769,000 to their own use and benefit.

The Singhs were ordered to appear at court on March 15.
