I wish to laud the government of Guyana on a well executed initiative in negotiating an effective strategy for the sustainability of the bauxite operations at Linden.
While conditions are very favourable in the Berbice River, a number of challenges confront the Linmine operation.
As a former resident of Linden I am well aware of the economic implications of the bauxite company to hundreds of individuals as well as the community as a whole.
Guyanese, particularly those in Region Ten can attest to the numerous efforts made by the incumbent administration to ensure the sustainability of the sector and by extension, the livelihood of many.
The foreign investors have an agenda which is to secure the interest of their investment therefore government made a fitting move to ensure continued employment for OBMI workers.
