A 38-year-old father of nine is nursing stab wounds to his left shoulder and abdomen at the Fort Wellington Hospital after being involved in an altercation with a relative a few nights ago.
Nigel Gordon of Number 28 Village who operates a grocery and beer parlour around one mile from his home said he and his attacker were playing a game of dominoes along with two other relatives when an argument erupted around 10 pm.
He said he turned off his lights hoping that they would leave but his attacker, an 18-year-old, got mad “and rushed to me.” Gordon said he hit him with a bottle but the youth whipped out a knife and plunged it in his shoulder.
According to him although he was stabbed, the fracas continued for almost one hour but the two other persons did nothing to stop it. He said that they encouraged the assailant to “beat him more.”
Gordon who is also employed with Guysuco as a cane harvester said he tried his best to take away the knife from the youth but the handle broke off. The two onlookers, he said, held him and the man dealt him a slash across his abdomen with the sharp end of the knife.
He started to bleed profusely and ran home and woke his wife and father and got them to take him to the hospital.
He told this newspaper he is in a lot of pain. He said it is crop time again and he cannot get to work to maintain his nine children whose ages range from six to 18 years old.
The man stated that two of his daughters are attending private school and the income from the shop alone is not sufficient to cover their expenses.
