I visited recently and recommend the following

Dear Editor,

I recently visited Guyana and enjoyed my visit tremendously. Lots of development. Some changes in people’s attitude. Some better and some worse.

Some things I found appalling. Chaotic traffic. Hopefully the traffic lights will address some of this. Traffic law needs to be updated to inform drivers to treat intersections as four way stops if the lights are not working. Still lots of garbage all over. I tried to visit Berbice one Sunday. Reached the stelling at Rosignol around 10 am. Couldn’t cross over using the car. Visit was limited to New Amsterdam.

Persons were bypassing the line and getting onto the ferry. Some were forcing their vehicles into the “priority” line in the presence of a police officer who did nothing to rectify the situation. There is a huge garbage pile next to the stelling, rather unsightly.

Georgetown is extremely crowded. Too many cars, no proper parking facilities. Businesses and government agencies must be encouraged to relocate outside the capital. Possibly near to the new stadium and further south east.

Modify regulations to ensure that businesses/government agencies cater for parking that is equivalent to size of business/agency.

Yours faithfully,

Ganesh Singh
