No concern was expressed when the farmers were moved

Dear Editor,

It was very interesting to note the comments and concerns by Mayor Green concerning the removal of vendors in the vicinity of KFC, Stabroek Market. It would be interesting to hear from you, Mr Mayor, why those vendors were allowed to remain there even though the High Court had made an order a few years ago.

But, Mr Mayor, neither you, nor the City Council or ACDA said anything when those farmers were removed at 6.30 am at the Stabroek Market. The clerk of markets alone handled that unfortunate situation. Not a single councillor, organization or political party voiced their concerns for those farmers who are selling their produce and are paying their revenue to sell there.

I am left to conclude that only that particular group of people’s lives have value even though they contravene the by-laws.

Mr Mayor, what about the barbering, food vending, gambling, clothes vending, etc, on America and Water Streets? Wouldn’t you be happy to see Georgetown as a clean and orderly place again?

Your faithfully,

Dayal Singh
