Mr. Corbin was duly elected in open congress

Dear Editor,

It is clear to me, and to many others, that some group is on the prowl, hoping to unsettle the members and adherents of the PNCR-1G into some kind of internal toss-up. True, they appear to want Mr. Corbin out, but that is clearly not all. They seem to be out to so disable that party, that when they are done with it, there would be no champions left in the battle for setting right, all that currently ails this nation.

And they seem to care not whether they tell the truth or not. Here they are, saying that Mr. Corbin has done nothing about those vendors who were so suddenly removed from the Stabroek Market area.

It is well documented and on the files of at least one television channel that Mr. Corbin, immediately following that eviction, publicly declared that action to be highly improper and against the traditions of the common law. In short, be pointed out very firmly that, having given those vendors for such a long while the impression that their presence in that location was agreeable to the Council, the latter should now, upon a change of heart, have given those people adequate notice of this.

And I am aware that the anti-Corbin/anti-PNCR writers might have succeeded in convincing some even staunch PNCR supporters that Mr. Corbin had done nothing on this subject. Someone has even suggested that Mr. Sharma would be the one to take up that fight. You see how mischief can deceive even those who should know better?

The thing is that I have heard at least one PNCR supporter repeating that falsehood.

The point to note about this mud-slinging assault upon Mr. Corbin’s credentials is that he did not appoint himself, nor was he hand-picked by his predecessor, as is often done and accepted.

Mr. Corbin was elected in open Congress, in the presence and with the support of all those members whose names are now being mentioned as more suitable, more meriting the position. And I am confident that they would not be party to this clearly underhand affair.

Last, but by no means least, is this thing about Linden. I hope that those Lindeners would learn that it is wise to beware of the Greeks when they come bearing gifts, whether these are wooden horses or cabinet outreaches. More I say not.

Yours faithfully,

Walter A. Jordan
