Cricket at Bourda was the work of many willing hands

Dear Editor,

In your correspondent Roger Persaud’s welcome coverage of the launching of the book Cricket At Bourda (Stabroek News March 30) there is a correction that should be made.

The caption to the picture of myself and Paul Chan-A-Sue signing copies of the book describes us as co-writing Cricket At Bourda. In fact what we did was jointly compile the book. Stephen Camacho wrote a fascinating brief history of the GCC for the book and Professor Winston McGowan, Guy-ana’s great cricket historian and scholar, contributed many of the articles. They deserve great credit, as do many others such as the Hand-in-Hand Group which sponsored the book, the President of the GCC who cooperated whole-heartedly in the project, Ron Legall who supplied the Test scorecards, Vic Insanally and Andrew Chase of Guyenter-prise, Lawrence Fanfair and also the people at Sheik Hassan’s Printery who worked indefatigably to get the book out in time.

Paul and I facilitated and compiled Cricket at Bourda but the book is very much the work of many willing and able hands. Many thanks to them.

By the way I note with pleasure that cricket at Providence has made a brave start to its own tradition by featuring a World Cup world record helmet trick in its very first day of play!

Yours faithfully,

Ian McDonald
