Leading teams suffer first defeat in Farfan and Mendes Easter squash

The Farfan and Mendes Easter team tournament continued Thursday evening at the Georgetown Club court with both the leading teams in the competition experiencing their first defeat.

It was a night for the underdogs as Running Ants (team C) and Match Ball (team D) defeated team A’s Whiplash and team E’s Predators.

The other match-up of the night between Ballistic (team B) and Bone Crushers (team F) is yet to be resolved with two matches still to be played.

This leaves the tournament wide open with two rounds left to be played. Whiplash and Predators are still in the lead with two wins from three matches while all the other teams are tied on one win each, with the Ballistic, Bone Crushers match still to be resolved.

Thursday night’s results

Whiplash (team A) lost to Running Ants (team C)

Kristian Jeffrey defeated Robert Fernandes 9/7 9/6 0/9 9/4, Deje Dias lost to Damian Fernandes 4/9 4/9 5/9, Marvin Dannett lost to Tariq Williams 3/9 9/5 6/9, Lydia Fraser lost to Selwyn Daniel 6/9 5/9 while the Mary Fung-A-Fat versus Alysa Xavier match was rescheduled to a later date.

Match Ball (team D) defeated Predators (team E) 3-2

Jerozeno Bell defeated Khalil Alli 9/0 9/1 9/1; Raphael deGroot defeated Oliver Kear 9/5 9/7 9/4; Randy Hope lost to Joshua Abdool 7/9 5/9; Kayla Jeffrey lost to Nicholas Narain 7/9 1/9 and Victoria Arjoon defeated Abhishek Singh 9/5 9/4.

Ballistic (team B) trail Bone Crushers (team F)1-2

Julian Chin defeated Alex Arjoon 9/6 9/5 9/2; Ronald Burch-Smith gave Peter deGroot a walk-over; Stefan Jeffrey lost to Ashley Khalil 6/9 7/9 while the Lloyd Fung-A-Fat versus Shane Samuels and Teesha Mohabeer versus Lee Fung-A-Fat match-up has been rescheduled to a later date.

The tournament will conclude tonight with the final play-off and trophies and other prizes are up for grabs.
