A car with nine persons early yesterday morning turn turtle and ended up in a trench at Clifton Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice after the driver swerved to avoid hitting a man.
Three of the occupants including a baby are now patients at the Georgetown hospital as a result of the accident which occurred a few minutes after midnight.
Nine persons were crammed into motor car PJJ 9415 when the driver tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian. The car’s rear wheel ran over the man’s foot before running off the road and turning over in a nearby trench.
According to the police, the car driven by Phillip Moore was heading east when in the vicinity of Clifton Settlement, Tain, Corentyne it swerved from Abraham Latchman. The driver lost control of the vehicle as he pulled to the right and ended up in the southern trench. Residents in the area came to the assistance of the injured persons and transported them to the New Amsterdam hospital. At about 8 am yesterday Daniel Thacoordial, seven months, along with Muneshwar Thacoordial, 18, and Sabrina Williams, 26, of Alness were transferred to the Georgetown Public hospital.
The other occupants of the car: Moore; Shawn Henry, 21 of Rosehall Town; Eula Simon, 32 and Earle Simon, 27, both of Liverpool and Ganesh Seelall and Jestila De Souza were admitted to the New Amsterdam hospital. Latchman was also admitted to the hospital.
The three who were transferred to the GPHC were said to be covered in mud when they were taken to the emergency area.
According to information reaching Stabroek News, Moore left to pick up brother and sister, Earle and Eula Simon.
While returning he stopped to pick up a husband, wife and their baby along with a friend of the couple. It was after this that the accident occurred.
