Conductor raped girl nearly two years ago – court told

An Essequibo bus conductor who allegedly raped a girl along with others almost two years ago was yesterday remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

Vishal Ramlall, 19, a bus conductor who resides on the Essequibo Coast was not required to plead to rape when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on November 18, 2005 at Charity, Essequibo he allegedly had sex with the girl without her consent.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews told the court that four persons were involved in the rape of the girl and Ramlall evaded the police.

Ramlall told the court that he has a four-year-old child and his family did not know that he had been arrested. He stated that he never knew he had a case at the court and he was told that three other persons were charged with the offence and one had died.

His case was transferred to the Charity Magistrate’s Court for October 22.
