A 34-year-old excavator operator was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bartica Hospital following an accident in the Upper Mazaruni area. According to reports Eddy Lowden died around 5:30 am yesterday after losing control of an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) he was riding.
Stabroek News was told that Lowden who hails from Kwawkwani Park, Berbice River was seen just before the accident speeding along the Bashinomu Upper Mazarui trail. According to eyewitness Raphael Amos who owns a shop in the area he was sitting in front of his shop when he saw Lowden passing. The eyewitness recalled hearing a crashing sound a few minutes later and upon checking a few yards from the shop he saw that the ATV had overturned against a tree and the man was lying nearby.
