Going home from wake…

A Laing Avenue man died after his motorcycle collided with a car at the corners of D’Urban and Lime streets early yesterday morning.

Dexter Baptiste was reportedly heading home after attending a friend’s wake when the accident occurred. The 23-year-old man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital but died while undergoing treatment. The scooter he was riding broke into numerous pieces upon impact and up to yesterday many of the parts were still on the road.

According to relatives, Baptiste suffered massive injuries about his head, face and chest. Yesterday, at his Lot 147 home Baptiste’s relatives said they are not certain how the accident occurred but persons at the scene told them that the car crashed into the bike. His aunt, Wendy Baptiste, said the front of the car was smashed in and that this indicated that the car had slammed into him.

She said she spoke to Baptiste before he left home at around 9.30 pm and he was his usual jovial self. The woman said the family received a call at about 3 am informing them about the accident and when they arrived at the hospital the man was unconscious but was being treated for his injuries. Wendy said shortly after she left the hospital, at about 6 am, the hospital called to say that Baptiste had died. She said the news left her and the family speechless with shock and grief. “Dexter was the breadwinner for his family
