IT teacher on carnal knowledge charge

An Information Technology (IT) teacher who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl was yesterday remanded to prison by Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

Dwayne Hilliman, 25, teacher, of 156 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara was not required to plead to carnal knowledge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on October 3 at Georgetown he had carnal knowledge of a girl under 15.

Attorney-at-law Lyndon Amsterdam represented Hilliman. He told the court that his client grew up before his eyes and he has a Diploma in Information Technology. He added that Hilliman was a teacher at a city school and was head of the IT department.

The attorney stated that a document was sought and it revealed that the young lady’s hymen was still intact.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail and stated that the hymen need not be ruptured for the offence to have been committed. He added that the girl had recently turned 13.

The magistrate refused bail and Hilliman will return to court on November 2.
