Rosignol man on indecent assault, ganja charges

At the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Geeta Chandan remanded a 20-year-old man to prison after he was charged with indecent assault and being in possession of narcotics.

The court heard that on October 2, Jason `Jack’ Mc Kenzie of Carriage Road, Rosignol indecently assaulted a 14-year-old female. He also reportedly had one gramme of cannabis sativa in his possession.

According to police reports after he was taken into custody for the first offence, a search was carried out and the substance was found on his person.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Hatty Anthony opposed bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence. She also submitted that the defendant is “hard to find” and that if he is placed on bail he would not attend trial.

Magistrate Chandan upheld the submissions and remanded Mc Kenzie to prison until October 22 when the case comes up again for bail review.
