$1.8M stolen after tanker waylaid at Liliendaal

In a daring daylight robbery at around 3.15 pm yesterday, three men attacked and robbed the driver of a tanker truck of $1.8M in front of the Ocean View Convention Centre at Liliendaal on the East Coast of Demerara.

Police said in a press release that Rajpaul Bachan was driving an oil tanker on his way to purchase fuel, when at Liliendaal he was forced to stop his vehicle after a white canter truck cut off his path.

The man was travelling to the city when the three men, two of whom had guns, came out of the canter and held him at gunpoint. One of them then entered the cab of the vehicle and took away the money and they all escaped in the canter truck. Police are investigating the incident.
