The new regulations for provisional licences are very onerous

Dear Editor,

Under new legislation mooted by the police and put in place by the Minister of Home Affairs, before you can purchase a Provisional Drivers Licence, the following has to be achieved:

1. Purchase a package from Police Headquarters at the cost of $3,450.

2. Attend classes in your district for four days scheduled by the Police Department.

3. Write a test and pass the test.

Note: Should you fail the test another sum of $1000 has to be paid to re-write the test and the pattern follows until you pass.

On passing, the Provisional will be sold to you which lasts for three months; before renewal, the same procedure has to be followed again.

Have many of the fatal accidents been caused by those holding provisional licences? These new regulations are very onerous.

Yours faithfully,

Prabhudas Ramnarine
