This building is not fit to be a Court

Dear Editor,

The Land Court at New Amsterdam Supreme Court was moved to a building at Strand, New Amsterdam. It will be there until the renovation of the Supreme Court is completed.

The building that houses the Land Court is without a telephone, electricity, water and washroom facilities. There is also no sign to indicate that the building is used as the Land Court. The conditions under which the Land Court judge, lawyers and litigants operate are deplorable and inhuman.

The Registrar of the Supreme Court should act speedily to remedy the situation.

The Land Registry at the Supreme Court is not functioning properly. There is one inexperienced male clerk at the registry. He goes to work whenever he likes.

He is absent at least twice a week. No one is there to supervise him. Titles to land take as long as six months to pass. Normally title should pass within two weeks. This matter should be investigated.

Yours faithfully,

Mohamed Khan Ali
