Dear Editor,
I refer to Mr. Clarles Sohan’s captioned “BMW cars will need skilled technicians to maintain them (07.12.08).
I was surprised about his statement that Guyana does not have the skilled technicians or tools for BMWs. I am a remigrant Guyanese with 15 years experience on BMWs/Mercedes Benzes and all Japanese vehicles.
I have all the advanced tools, equipment, manuals, and computer diagnostic machines for European and Japanese vehicles.
After living in the USA for 25 years I returned with a dream of operating my own shop with the thought of teaching youngsters all about vehicles. I later learnt that there is a lot of red tape and when seeking help there’s nothing but road blocks.
One problem includes getting a place to start. I had my own auto repair shop in Washington D.C. Mr Sohan could contact Mr Forbes July of D.C about my ability in this field.
I have been here almost a year and my stuff is sitting in a bond waiting for me to find a piece of real estate. So Mr Sohan there are people here and some who want to come here with their skills and knowledge to help and to make a living. But we need to get help starting.
Yours faithfully,
Reginald Forde
