Mr Nadir had talked of raising the tax threshold to $50,000 a month

Dear Editor,

One of the main pillars when Manzoor Nadir campaigned for president in 2006 as The United Force candidate was that he was sure that the Guyana’s fiscal circumstances can support raising workers’ tax threshold to $50,000. At the time he had been serving as Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry and one felt he was in a position to know what he was talking about.

Now Mr Nadir is Minister of Labour where he can more intimately pursue this so much needed increase in spending money for the working class but he has done nothing. Oh well, it was only the usual politician’s rhetoric to fool the masses.

Yours faithfully,

George Gomes
