Well I have to thank the Stabroek News young veteran-journalist Miranda La Rose for providing me with today’s lead issue indicated in my caption.
I thank her too for stimulating both my speculative seriousness and my usual levity. (If you don’t retain and articulate your sense of humour, stress and distress will overwhelm you in this land.)
In this week’s Sunday Stabroek (pg 9, 30/09/07) La Rose offered us a piece in which she reported that the most miniature of opinion polls among a select group of People’s Progressive Party (PPP) insiders put House Speaker Ralph Ramkarran as the most potential PPP Presidential candidate for the 2011 General Elections.
As my people and I contend with the Value Added Tax and “World Market Prices” – milk and shaving blades are getting out-of-hand and reach – as crime and traffic accidents take lives daily and, despite Minister Ramsammy’s heroic attempts – GPHC hospital patients have to depend on their own relatives’ home care, you might be wondering what the Dickens does it matter who the PPP puts forward as President four years from now! Quite understandable that reaction. My own interest today is relatively (more) light-hearted. My own speculation to ease the stress of my own financial debt burden, health problems and other weighty considerations. We need pleasant distractions, as I’ve mentioned before.
Actually, I don’t feel too capable of – or inclined towards – those insightful(?) analyses often offered by other analysts and columnists. (I nearly wrote Narcissists!) In any case one seldom finds time to really “study” Guyanese politicians of dubious present-day vintage. You know what? I’m launching into the next few paragraphs because I want to upset those interested by naming my own top PPP contender. Who does not even seem interested in any such contest! Now smile and think
