Celebrate splendour of the season – GAWU

The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) calls on citizens to celebrate the colours, splendour, and liveliness of Spring that the Phagwah festival brings.

In a press release GAWU said it hopes the celebrations will cause “devotees to disregard status and social norms as they employ water, abeer and coloured powders to celebrate life.” The union joins with the Hindu community to observe and celebrate the hope and optimism of Holi while “regarding the religious mythologies surrounding the historical event. GAWU said all mankind need hope to sustain life amidst the challenges of conflict, crime, disease, natural disaster and poverty.

GAWU said it sees the inclusiveness of the festival ushering in the reality of a “new” enhanced city of some standard. It said the season offers a threshold for new economic activities in construction, hospitality and tourism-related employment and the hope of oil exploration, the Cricket World Cup and other exciting events. The union wishes its members and all citizens a joyous Phagwah, free from conflict and negativity.
