DOCOL worker murder suspect among 12 held in police raids

Twelve men, including a suspect in last week’s murder and robbery of a Demerara Oxygen Company (DOCOL) employee, were arrested early Wednesday morning when police searched some 14 homes during raids in La Penitence, Albouystown, Albertown, and Diamond, East Bank Demarara.

A release from the police, said one of the men was fingered in the robbery and murder of DOCOL employee Ivor Cordis, who was gunned down on November 15 at Stevedore Housing Scheme. Two others are suspects in Tuesday’s robbery of the AH&L Kissoon Furniture Factory at Industrial Site.

According to the release, the others are being questioned in connection with various criminal matters under investigation, including robbery under arms. Raids were also conducted on Wednesday afternoon at West Ruimveldt and La Penitence during which two more houses were searched. Two men were arrested during those raids and a motorcycle and two motorcycle frames, suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained, were seized.
