Maccabeen Rangers upset Nets

Maccabeen Rangers prevented Nets from moving one step closer to the top spot with an upset win in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball League tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Saturday night.

Rangers, currently seeded eight in Georgetown with five wins and one loss, edged the number four-seeded Nets 63 – 62. The Nets went into the game with four wins and two losses.

The Stewart brothers, Hodayah and Ush combined for a contribution of 32 – points while Britiel Young added 10 points. Hodayah ended with 20 points while Ush had 12 points to lead the team past Nets.

Big men, Mortimer Williams and Fabian Johnson scored 18 and 12 points respectively for Nets while Triston Tulloch ended on 10 points in game one of the double – header carded for the night. Courts Pacesetters ensured that they maintained a perfect record against Legends in game two with a 71 -56 victory. Pacesetters record is now 7 – 0 with one game remaining this weekend.

Kwesi Roberts topped the scoring for the Courts team with 12 points while Marvin Ray and Stephon Gillis both had 11 points. Veteran player/coach Robert Cadogan scored 10 points in the game.

Despite a 20 – point performance from Rondel Murphy, the Legends sank to 2 – 5 record from seven games with their defeat against Pacesetters. Kerwin Blades and Eugene Kingston both ended on 11 points for Legends.

The tournament heads for its conclusion this weekend with all the teams expected to play their final games in the GABA League tournament set as the GABA 2006/07 regular season seeding tournament.
