First New Year Toronto baby born to Guyanese

The first New Year baby born in Ontario, Canada, was to a Guyanese family, who said the baby was ten days early.

According to a report on the online version of CTV Toronto, the bouncing baby boy, named Nathaniel Anthony Wilson, was born at Scarborough General Hospital, weighing seven lbs, three ounces minutes after the clock struck midnight on New Year’s day.

His big sister Yolanda gave him the name, which means ‘gift from God.’

The child’s mother, Abiola, said the baby was due on January 10 but she knew her family was in for a surprise when she started getting contractions while preparing a special Guyanese New Year’s Eve dinner.

According to the report, her husband Neal was so excited, he forgot to bring his wife’s hospital card and pillow to the emergency room.”I panicked,” he said laughing at the memory. “I just wanted to get out of the house,” the report quoted him as saying.
