Hinckson, Gibson arms, ammo trial Arrest warrant issued for ex-soldier

Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys yesterday issued an arrest warrant for James Gibson, an ex-soldier, who once again failed to show up at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for his possession of ammunition and firearm trial.

Gibson and former army lieutenant Oliver Hinckson were jointly charged with having a .38 pistol, 12 .38 rounds and 26 12-gauge shotgun cartridges on June 6, 2006 at Lot 115 Aubrey Barker Street, South Ruimveldt. At yesterday’s hearing only Hinckson was present.

When the matter was called some time after 9 am yesterday, it was stood down owing to the absence of the duo’s lawyers, Leslie Sobers and Nigel Hughes.

Sobers subsequently turned up and apologised for Gibson’s absence saying that he was out of town and was having transportation difficulties.

Magistrate Gilhuys who sounded a bit upset with the counsel’s submission said this was the second time Gibson had been absent from the case.

“From October 18 to now, he can’t appear in this court,” he said stressing that on the last occasion Hughes asked for Gibson’s absence to be excused and told the court that a medical would have been brought to the court at the next hearing (yesterday).
