Government is facilitating a public consultation on the University of Guyana to allow stakeholders a chance to voice their opinions on the challenges facing the institution in its critical role in the sustainable growth of the country.
The session is set for Friday, from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm, at the International Conference Centre at Liliendaal. Stakeholders are expected to examine the difficulties facing the university and to propose strategies to overcome them and to foster efficiency, effectiveness, excellence and accountability, advertisements in the Guyana Chronicle and Kaieteur News said. The advertisement was not submitted to the Stabroek News for publication.
The state’s role in providing an enabling framework that encourages the university to be more innovative and responsive to the needs of a globally competitive knowledge-based economy is expected to be featured on the agenda.
Government also intends to obtain contributions from stakeholders on the core values, abilities and skills which will be required of the graduates to engage fully in the development of their country, the advertisement said. It is also seeking consultations on the need for culture change to foster institutional behaviour and curriculum and programme changes to ensure relevance and quality assurance at the university.
According to the advertisement, government said it is fully committed to the creative potential of all Guy-anese so they will have the capacities to exploit the challenges of the 21st century and acknowledge the role of the university in this regard.
