Singh hopeful that ex-soldiers hospice will soon become reality

Major General ret’d Joe Singh says he hopes the hospice for needy servicemen and women will soon become a reality, in his message to the disabled ex-soldiers at a fete held recently.

According to a press release from the Committee for the Disabled Ex-Soldiers, the message was read by Colonel Gomes and Singh expressed regret at not being able to attend the luncheon, though he lauded the group’s tradition of meeting “to bring cheer and comradeship” to its “deserving comrades-in-arms.” The fete closed off the Committee’s activities for 2007.

Organised by the group’s chairman, the get-together was capped off by a bus ride to Parika.

Singh added that he continues to hold “the many thousands with whom it was my privilege to serve, in high esteem” for their support, loyalty and friendship is second to none. Singh also paid tribute to those soldiers who, during the year, passed away and encouraged surviving members to treasure their days.

The luncheon was hosted at the Spicy Dish Restaurant. The meal was delivered to all members who were unable to attend.
