Islamic Trust joins peace-loving citizens in condemning killings

The Guyana Islamic Trust (GIT) joins all peace-loving citizens in condemning the senseless killing of 11 persons at Lusignan on Saturday last.

In a press release, the GIT extended sympathy to grieving parents, brothers and sisters and other relatives of those whose lives were extinguished “by a band of crooks and vagabonds.” It said that the criminals will neither escape the justice of God nor the long reaches of the law.

The group calls on citizens to be brave and magnanimous and not to relegate to the low levels of criminals where the innocent are made to pay for the guilty. “We must be patient and fair while calling for justice,” the GIT said.

However, in this time of national mourning, “the GIT demands that there be an end to collective punishment in this country.” It encourages citizens to volunteer and abide by the rule of law and there be rapport for justice and national reconciliation and fair and equitable distribution of the national wealth and resources.
