Amerindian communities, numbering about 92, now control 14 per cent of the country’s landmass after additional land titles were recently approved by Cabinet.

The communities of Rupanau; Katoka and Parikwarunawa, all in Region Nine were granted land titles, while the Massara and Yakarinta communities, also in Region Nine, received extension of titled lands, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said on Wednesday at his weekly press briefing.

Luncheon noted that within the last three years 22 grants have been made to Amerindian communities conferring absolute ownership to them.
