Jagdeo meets with IAMGOLD team

President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday met with a team from Canadian firm, IAMGOLD at the Office of the President and the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Conway later described the meeting as productive.

The Government Information Agency (GINA) quoted Conway as saying “I think the message we wanted to convey was that we are still very focused on mineral development, particularly gold in Guyana and we have been here a long time, and in fact (are) the ninth largest gold producer in the world.”

During the meeting at OP, the IAMGOLD representatives discussed their OMAI project as well as other projects in Guyana in which the company is interested.

IAMGOLD in November 2006 acquired CAMBIOR which is the parent company of OMAI and it has been in charge of OMAI’s operations since, GINA said.
