St. John’s College point guard Keith ‘Bull’ Tute, led his team to two convincing victories this weekend in the second round of the Guyana Secondary Schools Basket-ball Association (GSSBA) league, combining for 52 points for the weekend.
In their first encounter, St John’s defeated a Brickdam Secondary School squad 49-27 despite the relentless efforts of the lower-seeded Brickdam team.
Tute penetrated and caused terror in the lane to personify the alias ‘Bull’ given to him by teammates and fans.
He ended with his season high of 30 points.
Although Samuel Thompson provided some help in the paint and ended the game with nine points, Tute was literally the St. John’s College offence and he touched the ball on every possession.
In the second match Tute led the way with 22 points and four rebounds to guide his team to a 53-35 win over Charlestown Secondary.
Just as in the Brickdam match-up, Tute was unstoppable when he penetrated the lane and managed to gain the majority of his points in the first half.
His teammate Shawn Henry also assisted with 10 points while Kareem Aaron scored 19 for Charlestown.
Another prolific scoring performance came from Curtly English, who scored 28 points to help North Georgetown overcome St. Stanislaus College 49-21 and make their first appearance in the win column for the tournament.
English, who has on many occasions scored all of his team’s points, tried once again to do everything for his team, only this time dishing out assists was on his agenda.
English ended the game with an uncharacteristic seven assists and four rebounds.
St Stanislaus struggled yet again in the backcourt but Don Johnson ended with 13 points.
School of the Nations was soundly beaten by Tutorial High 41-15. Michael Thompson ended with 14 points and nine rebounds while Kevin Jordan added 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Nations had, however, claimed a 32-20 victory from North Georgetown on Friday.
In that game, Derek Quacio ended with 10 points while Terrence Patton added six points.
Seon Lashley of Bishops’ High School finished with the first triple double of the season on Saturday when his team defeated Charlestown 49-29.
Lashley ended with the NBA-like stats of 18 points 10 rebounds and 10 assists while Tesrick Rambissoon added 17.
Lashley also top scored with 26 points in his team’s 58-19 blowout victory over East Ruimveldt.
Clive Wilson added 14 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
Leon Prince scored 15 of his teams futile nineteen points in yet another loss for East Ruimveldt.
St. Rose’s High held their composure to capture a tight 36-32 victory over Brickdam Secondary. Kadeem Jacobs and Rudolph Daly scored 13 points for the victors while Jonathon Wright scored 12 for Brickdam.
After suffering a fracture to his left leg, Tyriq Field-Ridley returned to the Queen’s College line up with nine points.
Ryburn Weever who ended with 13 points benefited from the majority of the seven assists dished by Kiev Chesney (11 points) as QC walked over East Ruimveldt 34-41.
