Next month, the Guyana Teachers’ Union will be holding its elections and to date, Cummings Lodge Secondary School has not received either the preliminary voters list or the final voters list from the union.
Rule 16 (ii) of the GTU’s constitution states that it is the responsibility of the General Secretary to forward the list to the Secretaries of all branches no later than September 30, of the preceding year in which the elections are to be held.
This has not been done.
I trust that the executives of the union will not have such callous disregard for members’ rights and proceed with an election, without first ensuring that the voters list is made available to all members and that ample time is given to review the list as stated by the constitution.
