Volcano matches of poor quality – GNBS

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards is advising consumers who have bought the Volcano brand of matches to immediately discontinue its use as they pose a threat to safety.

In a press release the Bureau says the matches, imported by Sun Foods Enterprise, are of poor quality, are in contravention of the National Labelling Standard and are illegal. It said precautions to be taken by users and the cautionary warning statement “Keep out of reach of children”, among other data, have been omitted from the label.

Further, the Bureau says when it conducted basic quality tests on the samples it collected; the product failed the splint strength test, the after glow test and five of the six striking tests. It said too the Volcano matches failed two of five visible inspection requirements.

The Bureau says the violations breach its safety requirements and the endangering of consumers resulted in some packages being slated for destruction. It urges distributors, retailers and shopkeepers to stop the sale of this product.
