John Charles wins Mashramani 40-mile road race

John Charles of Linden stamped his authority in the second road race of the 2008 season of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Mashramani 40-mile event held yesterday on the West Bank from the Demerara Harbour Bridge to Bushy Park and back.

Twenty-four cyclists faced the starter, national cycling coach, Hassan Mohammed and Charles, who was recently elected captain of the Continental Cycle Club, prevailed in a time of one hour, 43 minutes and 49 seconds.

Charles was followed by Leer Nunes, Warren Mc Kay, Christopher Holder, Alonzo Greaves and Robin Persaud.

In the brief presentation ceremony which followed, Mohammed praised the cyclists for braving the weather.
