Nation must stand firm together -private sector

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) says it is outraged at the “bestial and malevolent killings” at Bartica and urges the nation to remain resolute and focused in standing together in the face of this brutal assault.

In a press release yesterday the Commission extended condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives and suffered injury as a result of the attack. The PSC also said “the nation must raise its collective voice at every level of society, in every corner of the country, in each and every organisation and society and in all of the political parties, to demand of our leaders, joint, unconditional, concerted and bipartisan action to bring an end to the violent upheaval which now threatens” Guyana.

At the same time it commended President Bharrat Jagdeo and the parliamentary opposition for their public commitment to participate in a national consultation to address matters of national security.

The PSC said the consultation is long overdue and it stands ready “to fully participate in an ongoing and unconditional dialogue of all the nation’s major stakeholders for the purpose of arriving at a national consensus in the formulation of a strategic security plan
