Form a National Front Government, this one can’t cope

Dear Editor,

I am shocked at these non-stop killings that are taking place in Guyana. Kaieteur newsmen, Agricola, Lusignan, Bartica and much more elsewhere. It is a clear sign that the government cannot offer protection to its citizens. What is the government there for?

It is time for the government to resign or call a snap election or form a National Front Government until the next election. The PPP when they were in the opposition was always calling for a National Front Government, now is the time for them to achieve that dream. Why wait? For more killings?

May I remind the government and people of Guyana what the judge said in his ruling in my last refugee case in Canada for a Guyanese family last October:

“Nations should be presumed capable of protecting their citizens. Security of nationals is, after all, the essence of sovereignty. Absent a complete breakdown of the state apparatus, it should be assumed that the state is capable of protecting its citizens.”

Is the State of Guyana capable of protecting its citizens? The answer is obvious from what is going on.

The solution is simple, immediate action is needed for a National Front Government with all political parties, civil society and non-government organizations.

Yours faithfully,
