Brazilian shot in Marudi attack

Bandits yesterday morning shot a 39-year-old Brazilian man during an attack on his business place at Marudi, near the Mazaruni.

Details of the incident were sketchy since up to press time last night police had not issued a statement or provided this newspaper with any information on what might have transpired there.

The injured man who has since been identified as Avebley Silvio of Second Avenue, Bartica is currently a patient of the Georgetown Hospital after undergoing surgery yesterday to remove the bullet that was lodged in the region of his hip. He is said to be in a stable condition.

This newspaper was told late yesterday afternoon that members of the Guyana Police Force were travelling to the remote location where there is very little or no communication to carry out their investigations.

Stabroek News understands that the incident occurred during the wee hours and Silvio was subsequently rushed to the Bartica Hospital where he received medical attention before being referred to the Georgetown Hospital. When he arrived in the city just after 1 pm, he was conscious.

A woman, who lives close to the injured man’s home, said that he had been living there for about two years and he traded gold and had a radio communication business at his home.
