GCB names Under-15 ‘B’ team to face English schoolboys

The selection committee of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has named a 13-man Under-15 `B’ team which will oppose the touring English Schoolboys Under-15 team on Monday.

The English Schoolboys team Under-15 team’s tour of Guyana is an annual one and forms part of a wider Caribbean tour, according to a release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

This will be the team’s fifth visit to Guyana and they will compete in matches against Essequibo, Berbice and Guyana Under-15 teams.

Richard Broad, right, and members of the English Schoolboys team.The English Schoolboys, who will be accompanied again by their Regional Secretary, Mr. Malcom Broad, (MBE) will play three limited over matches back-to-back starting tomorrow against Essequibo at the Anna Regina Ground.

In the second match, the team will face Berbice at the Blairmont Community Development Centre Ground on Sunday with the final match being against the Guyana under-15 ‘B’ team at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda, on Monday.

Guyana has not had a tremendous amount of success over the English in the previous matches played in the Association’s tour.

Only a few wins by the entire three teams (Essequibo, Berbice and Guyana) have been recorded for the past few years they have been challenging the teams.

However, the matches have had some positives with cricketers from both the English and Guyana teams of previous tournaments progressing to more senior levels of the game.

Guyanese would recall Norwayne Fredericks of Essequibo who was called to the West Indies Under-15 trials while Leon Johnson, went on to captain the West Indies Under-19 World Cup team.

According to the release, the organizing committee of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, is hopeful that the young cricketers from both the Guyana and English teams, will get an opportunity to interact with Sri Lankan and West Indian teams who are currently preparing for the opening test of the 2008 Digicel Home Series at the National Stadium at Providence, tomorrow.

The English Schoolboys, some of whom have been accompanied by their parents, will have an opportunity of seeing some of the sights of Guyana.

The players selected to represent Guyana Under-15 `B’ team to oppose the English U-15 Schoolboys on Monday are: Loyydel Lewis, Alex Romalho, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Neil Barry jnr., Ransford Beaton, Sunil Repee, Kevin Ogle, Almando Doman, Gavin Charles, Brian Sattaur, Davindra Pottaya, Kemraj Rampersaud and R.
