Niles captures Cheddi Jagan Memorial 25-miler

(Clairmonte Marcus photo)Junior Niles escaped from challengers Robin Persaud and Raymond Newton to claim victory in the senior category of the Dr. Cheddi Jagan Memorial cycle road race on Sunday.
Niles scorched the 25-mile course of the race which stared from Supenaam, proceeded to Charity and ended at Anna Regina on the Essequibo Coast, capturing two of the ten prime prizes in the process.
Third-placed finisher Raymond Newton, Tony Simon and fifth-placed finisher Taikarram Sookhai also claimed two prime prizes each while second-placed finisher Robin Persaud claimed one prime prize.

The other prime prize was captured by the winner of the junior category Geron Williams, who dropped second-placed finisher Christopher Persaud to claim victory.
Naomi Singh rode to victory in the female category.
The veterans’ category was won by Virgil Jones while Gary Benjamin finished second and Kennard Lovell, third.

The male upright category was won by Dexter Wilson, with Keaton Dawson taking second place ahead of third-placed finisher Shawn Frank.

The event, which was started by Minister of Housing and Water, Harry Narine Nawbatt, was organized by national cycling coach Hassan Mohammed.
