Pooran hits unbeaten ton in Trinidad

Former Guyana Under-19 batsman Hoomchand Pooran struck an unbeaten 100 for First Citizens Clarke Road United, as they drew their Eastern Credit Union National Cricket League Division One, third round clash with Clico Preysal at Inshan Ali Park recently.
Batting first, Clico Preysal were bundled out for just 118. Clarke Road in reply then declared their first innings in the rain interrupted game at 260 for six. Pooran batted well while wickets fell around him and it took a sixth wicket partnership of 92 with Windwards left-arm pacer Kenroy Peters 32 to give them the advantage.

With a deficit of 142, Preysal ended the game on 152 for two wickets. The man leading the charge was Azeemul Haniff who made a fluent unbeaten 84. At the end he was in the company of former West Indies under-19 opener Aaron Ragoonath, 32 not out.

Another, Guyanese enjoying a good match, was left arm spinner Neil McGarrell. Playing for Merryboys against Queen’s Park at the Queen’s Park Oval, McGarrell was his steady self in helping his team to a first innings victory.

Merryboys batted first and got to a fighting 256 with former T&T batsman Kenton Thompson getting an even 100. McGarrell got 24 in partnership with him. Queen’s Park in reply was routed for just 63.

Following on, Queen’s Park reached 254 for seven. Bowling for MerryBoys, McGarrell had 2/36.
