A 39-year-old woman was remanded on a charge of assaulting a police officer when she appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Cheryl Murray of East La Penitence Squatting Area allegedly unlawfully assaulted police officer Florence Gazelle when the officer went to Murray’s home to act on an arrest warrant that was issued for her.
Murray who has other matters pending was not attending court and an arrest warrant was issued for her. When the police went to her home she hid and when she was found she reportedly resisted arrest. When she was taken subsequently to the station Murray allegedly physically assaulted the officer.
The police prosecutor asked that bail be refused since the defendant is known for not coming to court for her matters.
The matter continues in the same court on April 14.
