Two more men held over Kalamadeen vanishing

Farouk KalamadeenPolice yesterday arrested two men: one in Eccles and another in West Ruimveldt in connection with the disappearance of Jiffi Lubes owner, Farouk Kalamadeen last week Wednesday.

Up to press time last night the men, one of whom is said to be known to the police were in custody, a top police official said. Crime Chief Seelall Persaud also confirmed that the men had been detained for questioning in connection with the probe into Kalamadeen’s abduction. A source told this newspaper that the police seized a motor bike and a car from one of the men who was arrested. The man is said to be a known `trunker’ (a person who steals from vehicles).

Meanwhile, family members yesterday said they had not heard any word from the businessman or his abductors, but they continue to pin their hope on prayers. Police had earlier detained a businessman, but released him on Monday. Persaud said the police were tracking several leads.
Stabroek News had been told that Kalamadeen might have been picked up by foreigners with whom he had problems, but his wife, Nariman Kalamadeen, said that was not so. Reports are that unidentified gunmen snatched the businessman while he was walking along the Houston Public Road. Relatives said that there had been no demand for a ransom. Mrs. Kalamadeen had told Stabroek News last week that it was clear her husband was being held against his will.

However, she could not say why her husband was being held.
The 54-year-old Kalamadeen left his D’Aguiar Park, East Bank Demerara home around 6 am on Wednesday to go on his daily jog. He was last seen wearing a blue sweat suit, track boots and a cap. The businessman’s wife said that they have since checked every corner in the Houston, Mandela Back Road area, interviewed almost all the security guards in the block and no one has a clue as to where the former motor racer might be. According to her from all appearances, her husband might have been snatched as soon as he exited the gated Barrington Place, D’Aguiar Park community, noting that none of the security guards along the route he walked every day saw him on Wednesday morning.
