Goat theft accused spared

by the man they stole them from but did not get off that easily with the magistrate yesterday.

Nigel Reid, 21, of 57 T Sophia North, Sherwin Smith, 30, of 90T North Sophia and Mark Bynoe, 19, of 64E North Sophia were charged with stealing three goats, property of Lennox Morrison on April 13 at Bel Air. They all pleaded not guilty to the charge. Police prosecutor Denise Griffith said that neighbours had seen the men stealing the goats and upon receiving a report from Morrison the men were arrested. Morrison was asked to identify the goats at the station where they are still lodged. Morrison told Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle that he did not wish to press charges against the men since his goats were found.  Griffith asked that the man be made to pay costs. Magistrate Robertson-Ogle however turned the costs over to the three men who have to pay $5,000 each to the court and also placed them on a bond to keep the peace for two years.

The men apologized  and thanked Morrison for not pressing charges against them.
