Man caught when alarm went off

A 27-year-old man was placed on $30,000 bail when he appeared on a charge of break and enter and larceny in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Desmond George of 13 Wales, West Bank Demerara allegedly stole three toilet tanks valued at $90,000, property of the Ministry of Education on March 9.
The man told the magistrate that he was walking home from the cinema when he was stopped by the police and told that he was wanted for the theft.

Prosecutor Denise Griffith told the court that the man and two others were caught at the scene of the crime when the alarm went off. Subsequent checks revealed that the tanks were missing.

The matter continues in Court Four on April 21.
