‘Tiger’ deserves a national award

Dear Editor,

They were the two “scoring shots” of the century. I am talking about Shivnarine “Tiger” Chanderpaul’s four and six that earned West Indies the match of the first one day over Sri Lanka which was played in Trinidad last Thursday April 10, 2008. Of course they did not give him the man of the match award, how ironic?

We in Guyana are proud of our ‘boy from Unity” and though it would seem as though National Awards are not given out in Guyana anymore, let those concerned make an exception and give an award to “Awee Tiger Shiv”, he deserves it we are all proud of you “El Tigre”.
In the second one day of the series held on Saturday April 12, 2008 Shiv was there with “Marlon to see us home. My fellow Guyanese, West Indians there is a “Hungry Tiger” out there on the field and when Shiv is hungry for runs we love to see him devour all bowlers. Keep on being hungry Tiger.

He must get his national award now.
I do not have electricity where I live, although I have a small TV I cannot watch programmes. I was first aware of “Sharma’s” episode through the daily papers and radio.

I was very disturbed that his licence was suspended, but on further investigation I found that the threat to our head of state was aired on channel 6. On the first occasion Mr Sharma would not have known what his caller was going to say but when his station repeated the threat message, he becomes part of the disrespect for the Head of State.
Sharma I ask you if the threat was aired to the American President George W Bush would you have re-aired it. Isn’t Bharrat Jagdeo a President too?

However, I feel that the suspension was too harsh and call on Mr Jagdeo and those concerned to reduce the suspension to two weeks. My President you have made your point and I am sure from now on persons will think twice before they try to ‘dis’ your office.

Yours faithfully,
Murtland Slugger Williams
